How Heat Pumps Are Changing Home Heating

for the Better

As we strive for more sustainable living, modern heat pumps are revolutionising home heating. Brands like Vaillant and Ritter are at the forefront, offering systems that keep homes warm and cosy while being environmentally friendly.

Understanding Heat Pumps:
Heat pumps work by extracting warmth from the cold outside air and bringing it into your home. They can also cool your home in the summer, providing comfort year-round.

Eco-friendly and Cost-effective:
New heat pumps use the eco-friendly refrigerant R290, capable of heating up to 75°C. This allows them to integrate seamlessly with existing heating systems like radiators and underfloor heating.

Smart Design:
A well-designed heat pump system ensures efficient heat distribution, saving energy and reducing costs. Proper design means easier installation, fewer repairs, and a longer lifespan.

Quiet, Easy, and Versatile:
Modern heat pumps are quiet, straightforward to install, and versatile, ready to heat, cool, and provide hot water. They're durable enough to handle various weather conditions.

Looking Ahead:
With advanced technology and smart design, heat pumps offer a sustainable, comfortable, and cost-effective solution for home heating and cooling. By choosing these innovative systems, we contribute to a healthier planet.

The Refrigerant Future is Spelled “Propane”

Propane, first used over a century ago, is now emerging as the leading refrigerant choice due to its safety for the ozone layer, minimal impact on global warming, and excellent thermodynamic properties.

A Journey Through Refrigerants:
Initially, natural refrigerants like propane, ammonia, and sulfur dioxide were popular. The industry shifted to synthetic refrigerants in the 1920s, but these were later found to harm the ozone layer and contribute to global warming.

Return to Natural Solutions:
Propane (R-290) is a natural hydrocarbon with excellent thermodynamic properties. It’s already used in various applications, from barbecues to refrigeration, and has no negative impact on the ozone layer or global warming.

Future-Proof and Sustainable:
Unlike synthetic refrigerants, propane is not subject to strict regulations. It's a natural compound, making it a sustainable, future-proof solution. Swegon is investing in propane-based technologies and training programs to support this green transition.

Why This Matters in NZ:
New Zealand, known for its commitment to environmental sustainability, is ideally positioned to benefit from propane’s resurgence. The country’s strict regulations on synthetic refrigerants and its focus on reducing carbon emissions align perfectly with propane's eco-friendly properties. Adopting propane-based refrigeration solutions supports New Zealand’s goals for a greener future and demonstrates leadership in environmental stewardship.
