Why we need urgent action to solve the heat pump dilemma

Heat pumps are highly efficient, potentially offering 600% efficiency and decades of service. However, their adoption in Australia is hindered by outdated standards and complex regulations. Initial high costs, limited information, and skewed incentive schemes that favour cheaper models pose additional barriers.

Rapid action is needed to update and simplify standards to help consumers make informed choices and standardise performance metrics to avoid confusion. While some government and industry efforts are underway, faster policy and regulatory changes are essential to fully leverage this eco-friendly technology.

Innovative Hybrid Heating Solution by Caleffi and Waterware

Waterware recently led an upgrade at a worksite with an outdated gas-fired heating system. Emphasising environmental responsibility, the customer opted for a cutting-edge hybrid system combining gas and heat pump technology, significantly enhancing performance and slashing carbon emissions.

The installation featured two separate systems: one for underfloor heating and cooling, and another for domestic hot water. Utilising R290 heat pumps in tandem with condensing boilers—which activate only as needed—ensures optimal efficiency under various conditions.

Waterware integrated several Caleffi products to improve flow distribution and remove impurities, maximising the new system’s effectiveness and reliability.
